Below is my submission to Stevie Turner’s Short Story/Poetry Competition for June 2019. If you’d like, you can enter too. Create something new and original or find something you’ve written but never shared before. Give it a try and enter here.
This poem is based on a recent experience but told from the alternative point of view. Please let me know what you think.

Equines Unite
Brown, Gray, White
Mule, Donkey, Horse
We all share the same plight
We are stuck within this fence
All day and all night
When we opened the gate
We ate all the grass in sight
Bashed and thrashed around the yard
Those humans looked affright
As they rounded us up
And closed us in tight
We need another decoy
And together we’ll unite
Outside those paltry boundaries
We’ll once again take flight
